MV Bute
Having previously worked on all 25 CMAL Ports across Scotland, in late 2018 Scottish Communications Group were tasked with installing a robust new CCTV system on the MV Bute.
The Client
CMAL serves the West Coast of Scotland, Clyde Estuary and Northern Isles and owns vessels and other assets and makes them available to an operator. Operations of the ferries are conducted by Cal Mac Ferries Ltd.
Why Did They Approach Scottish Communications Group?
We previously installed CCTV for the 25 ports on the west coast of Scotland for CMAL throughout 2016 and 2017. SCG also continues to provide security maintenance for CMAL.
Their Needs | Our Solution
CMAL Fleet Engineer John Salton explained the main reason for this upgrade was for the safety of staff and customers using the service following recent incidents.
Our solution was to provide the MV Bute with the latest in Bosch security technology. The equipment was distributed across key areas of security on the vessel including the main passenger lounge. Using high-definition PTZ cameras with a Bosch Video Management and analytics system meant that CCTV operators on board could easily navigate the system and use it to provide essential monitoring for the safety and security of passengers and workers.
The Challenges
- Tight timeline
- Mobilising and completion before the Bute left the dock
Working to overcome these challenges, we worked closely with CMAL to ensure minimum disruption. In total, the entire recording and monitoring system refit only took a total of four days.
Having now completed the CCTV system onboard the MV Bute, we look forward to working further with CMAL on the MV Argyle!
"This new robust CCTV system from Scottish Communications Group will allow issues with customers and crew to be recorded and presented to relevant authorities if needed."
John Salton, CMAL Fleet Engineer
