Welbeck Estates
What have we done
SCG have supplied and installed a new Hytera digital radio system for the Est. The system comprises of 13 x Hytera PD-985 GPS hand held radios with mandown feature, which were issued to game, maintenance and farm staff. The radios support private call, group call, SMS, and telephone interconnect. If a radio user presses their emergency button or the mandown feature is activated it triggers an “emergency” alert call which is sent to all the other radios on the system. As well as the call a text message is also sent with the coordinates of the alerting radio.
Coverage for the 52,000 acre Est is provided by a hill top radio repeater located on “Scaraben” a high exposed feature located in the middle of the Est. The Hytera RD-965 repeater is powered by a wind and solar charging system, the antenna and wind turbine are mounted on a six metre self-supporting mast, with the radios and charging equipment installed within a ground-mounted marine rated enclosure on the mast base.
What were the challenges?
Due to the sheer size of the Estate, and the lack of mobile reception, the challenge was to provide a system that would provide an effective communications system, whilst being robust enough to survive use in a very harsh environment.
How has the customer benefited?
The client now has a reliable all informed radio system that provides Estate wide communication for all the staff that supports lone working, and helps co-ordinate day to day operations.
